Professional Excellence in Athletic Training Award Criteria

In 2015 the name changed from the Athletic Trainer of the Year Award to Professional Excellence in Athletic Training.

Nomination Process

A. Any IATA certified member may nominate an athletic trainer for this award. 

B. The nomination form must be completed and submitted by the deadline of August 25th. 

C. Only NATA and/or State Certified Athletic Trainers may receive this award. 

D. Nominees must be in good standing with the IATA for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years. 

Selection Process 

A. All nominations must be received by the deadline date. 

B. The nominee must have worked a minimum of five (5) years at an institution in Indiana. 

C. It is preferred that the nominee has NATA membership, but this is not required. 

D. The nominee should be active in advancing the profession of athletic training and sports medicine (i.e., education, research, speaking, writing, etc.). 

E. The nominee should be a well-respected member of their community (i.e., volunteer, civic organizations, church, and/or school). 

F. The nominee should make contributions/support to the IATA and the profession of athletic training. 

G. The nominee should make contributions to athletes and athletics in Indiana. 

H. A curriculum vitae/resume must be submitted before a nominee is presented to the full awards committee. 

I. The committee shall make a recommendation of up to three nominees from each category to the IATA executive council.  

J. In the event that no nomination is received, or the awards committee rejects all nominees, or the executive council rejects the nominee, the awards committee is then responsible for nominating and recommending a candidate/s to the executive council. 

K. Non-selected nominees will be considered one additional year following the initial nomination. 

Election Process 

A. The executive council officially elects the Professional Excellence in Athletic Training award winners. 

B. Only one recipient per award category will be selected per year. 

C. The election results are publicly announced at the IATA Fall business meeting held in conjunction with the IATA Fall Symposium.
